A new Wawa is coming to western Sussex County.

The beloved convenience store is expected to open in the late fall next to Grotto Pizza on the northbound side of Route 13 in Seaford.

“We are excited to have Wawa here in Seaford," said Mayor David Genshaw in a press release. "People love their sandwiches and subs along with their great service. They are a great addition, and we wish them great success."

Delmarva Veteran Builders, the Salisbury-based commercial construction firm dedicated to employing U.S. Armed Forces Veterans, will lead the construction of the 5,500-square-foot building.

The plans include fuel options and a back entrance off Tharp Road. The property sold in 2019 but the project was put on hold during the pandemic.

The next closest Wawa is about six miles north on Route 13 in Bridgeville, according to Wawa's website.

This will be the 11th convenience store project for Delmarva Veteran Builders in the past 3 1/2 years.
