First lady Jill Biden's latest children's book, about pet cat Willow, out this spring

Willow is the latest in a line of first pets to become the star of a children’s book, and this upcoming installment is authored by first lady Jill Biden.  

On March 27, publishing company Simon & Schuster announced that “Willow the White House Cat” is a new release coming out this spring that tells the story of how Willow started out on a farm in Pennsylvania and wound at the White House, making friends along the way. Throughout the illustrated story, Willow discovers new things about the White House and all the people inside it.

This is the first lady’s third children’s book. Her previous titles are “Don’t Forget, God Bless Our Troops” and “Joey: The Story of Joe Biden,” along with her memoir “Where the Light Enters: Building a Family, Discovering Myself.” Illustrator Kate Berube’s previous children’s titles include “The Summer Nick Taught His Cats to Read,” “Hannah and Sugar” and “Mae’s First Day of School,” “Second Banana” and more.  

The book will be released by Paula Wiseman Books, part of Simon & Schuster, on June 4. It is 48 pages long and marketed for children four to eight years old. It is currently available for pre-order for $19.99 at retailers like Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Books-A-Million and Bookshop. Prices may vary.  

Previous titles about White House pets include “Millie’s Book,” about George H.W. Bush’s dog Millie; “Dear Socks, Dear Buddy,” about the letters sent to her family pets, Buddy the dog and Socks the cat; and “The First Pup: The Real Story of How Bo Got to the White House.”
