Police identify teenager who died in Lewes ATV crash

Delaware State Police have identified the 16-year-old victim of a Lewes ATV crash as Margaret Browne of Rehoboth Beach.

Browne died and four other teens were injured after a John Deere Gator crashed off Robinsonville and Fox Run roads just before 7 p.m. Tuesday, April 6.

Police said the driver was traveling at a high rate of speed and failed to make a left turn, causing the ATV to skid off the east edge of the driveway, overturn and strike a tree. It came to rest on its roof and all five teens were ejected.

Margaret "Maggie" Browne, 16, was killed in an April 6 ATV crash outside Lewes, Delaware. The former Wyckoff resident ran track at Cape Henlopen High School.

Browne was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to a Parsell Funeral Homes obituary, Margaret "Maggie" Browne was the daughter of David M. Browne and Monica Mazza Browne. She previously lived in Wyckoff, New Jersey.

Browne was a Cape Henlopen High School sophomore, where she ran track and was a cheerleader.

Margaret "Maggie" Browne wanted to be an engineer.

Cape track and field coach Tim Bamforth said Browne was the "queen of the jumps," having won the long and high jump events at her last meet. The team will wear the letter "M" on their uniforms for the rest of the season in tribute to Browne, he said.

Browne also loved to read and was working toward her goal of becoming an engineer, according to the obituary.

A walk-through visitation is planned for Tuesday, April 13. A funeral will follow the next day and will be live-streamed.
